The Crook County Health Department has started a 12-week Recovery Run Club to help people recovering from addiction or substance use disorder. The program uses physical activity and peer support to give participants a structured environment as they work through recovery.
Organizers say the club is meant to improve both physical and emotional health while helping members build connections with others. “There are a lot of health benefits, obviously, to running, but when you’re in recovery and you’re in kind of more of a challenging period of your life, it’s really helpful just to have a community around you, supporting you along the way,” said Haley Morris, CCHD Overdose Prevention Coordinator.
At the end of the 12 weeks, participants will have the chance to take part in the Conquer the Canyon race on June 6. They can choose from three distances: 5K, 10K, or half-marathon.
To help people get involved and lower barriers to participation, the first ten individuals who register for the program will receive running shoes paid for by the Crook County Health Department.
Community members interested in joining can sign up at Recovery Run Registration. For more information about the program, contact the Crook County Health Department at 541-447-5165.
Katie Plumb is listed as director and media contact for this initiative.
