Paul J. Romero, Jr., a registered Republican and project manager, has announced his candidacy for the 2026 Oregon gubernatorial race. Emphasizing a commitment to the Constitution and the rule of law, Romero aims to prioritize principles over party politics.
Romero states, “I’ve always said the Constitution and Rule of Law comes first – not the political machine, not the donor class, not the masses or who screams the loudest, and not the good old boys’ club.” He positions himself as a candidate representing “We the People,” focusing on fiscal responsibility and personal accountability.
With experience as a Navy veteran holding Top Secret SCI clearance, Romero emphasizes his non-traditional political background. He asserts that government should be run like a business under constitutional limitations. “My goals are to finish each project timely and under budget,” he explains.
Romero criticizes current Oregon leadership for excessive taxation and neglecting constituents’ needs. He argues that special interest influence has eroded common sense in governance. Highlighting past prosperity from natural timber resources, he attributes economic decline to federal welfare policies that hindered state benefits.
His campaign platform includes eliminating state income tax, reducing corporate taxes, abolishing estate taxes, and introducing a modest luxury sales tax. Romero advocates for an economic climate conducive to growth and calls for auditing Oregon’s budget to eliminate waste.
Additionally, he proposes constitutional amendments for electing certain officials and limiting mail-in ballots. His “Contract with Oregonians” outlines these commitments on his campaign website www.romerofororegon.com.
Romero concludes by inviting support: “Let’s come together and make Oregon a great place to live and raise a family.”
