City of Madras Ballot Measure and Council Candidates

The City of Madras will refer Ballot Measure 16-102 to voters this November asking them if psilocybin-related businesses should be banned within city limits. In addition, there will be eight candidates on the ballot to fill four (4) positions opening up on the City Council (Mayor and three Council seats). The candidates, listed below in the order in which they applied, have met all the legal requirements. All Council positions are uncompensated volunteers.

Council 3 Positions (4-Year Term)

“Due to the development incentives Council implemented over the last couple of years, residential development is at a 15-year high right now and opportunities for economic growth are also increasing,” stated City Administrator Burril. “Transportation, safety and infrastructure improvement projects are also on the horizon for our area. An engaged and collaborative Council will help our community thrive and grow in a positive and manageable way.”

“Madras is lucky to have so many qualified candidates running for the office of Mayor,” stated City Elections Officer Lysa Vattimo. “I don’t believe Madras has ever had five candidates vying for this position in one election. I encourage all Madras residents to check their registrations and make sure they are qualified to vote.” Oregonians can check their voter registration online at the Secretary of State’s My Vote web page.

Situated in scenic Central Oregon with panoramic mountain vistas, winding canyons and pristine waterways, Madras is a community of diverse agricultural, manufacturing, and business enterprises and cultures. We pride ourselves on being a vibrant, responsive community where our residents can thrive and grow.
