Regretfully, the completion date of this project has been extended to November 17th for a couple of reasons:
1. Delayed moving of communication utility lines.
Utility companies were notified a year in advance of this project and reminded several times of the project schedule. Each utility is responsible for moving their own utility lines with the understanding that the project schedule is dependent on this occurring.
2. Unanticipated conflict with pre-existing concrete footings.
In order to install vertical bars that extend into the new bridge footings, concrete footings discovered during construction need to be removed. This will delay the pouring of concrete. Delaying the pouring of concrete subsequently delays paving.
While the City's engineers do everything they can ahead of a project to avoid these types of delays, some are out of their control, or cannot be anticipated. When a project of this magnitude is delayed mid-stream, it has adverse effects on the schedules of every contractor approved to work on the project, which can further delay the project.
