Congratulations to Marti Betz for her winning entry for the December 2022/January 2023 Events guide cover contest. The library's Events guide will be available in all library locations and online in late November.
About the artist: Marti loves to travel and explore Central Oregon on foot, bike, and cross-country skis. “This is where I fill myself up with beautiful ideas that get expressed in my work,” says Marti. The cover artwork is one way she gives back to her community and while nourishing the next creative endeavor. After a successful career in publication design, Marti wrote and illustrated a children’s book to help her granddaughter cope with having a new baby in the house. One afternoon she was delivering extra copies to Little Free Libraries around town when she met a teacher who told her Deschutes County has a wonderful library system. From that tip, Marti joined the ‘A Novel Idea’ program in 2020 and made it a family affair. “My granddaughter is now old enough that we both loved reading the 2021 selection, Front Desk by Kelly Yang,” said Marti. “I like to purchase these books and pass them on. As one writer and artist to another, I feel it’s important to support that community.”
Thank you to all of our creative cover entries in the library's Events guide cover contest. All submissions from September and October are below.
